Dame Joan Sutherland Memorial to screen on ABC1

ABC1 will broadcast a state memorial service for Dame Joan Sutherland from the Concert Hall of the Sydney Opera House on Tuesday November 9th at 10:30am.

The memorial service will feature recorded highlights of Dame Joan’s career and the Opera Australia chorus will perform.

PM Julia Gillard and Dame Joan’s son, Adam Bonynge, will both speak at the service.

ABC TV Head of Arts and Entertainment, Amanda Duthie says; “As Australia’s premier Arts broadcaster, ABC TV is so proud to be involved in bringing this celebration of Dame Joan Sutherland’s extraordinary life to all Australians. In homes, offices, cinemas and public screens around the country, people will have the chance to participate in the commemoration of her amazing achievements courtesy of ABC1.”

Opera Australia’s Chief Executive Adrian Collette says; “It is an honour for Opera Australia to arrange the program for Dame Joan’s State Memorial Service.

“Her stellar talent plus the time she and her husband Richard Bonynge invested in Australia, inspired both a great audience for opera and the development of so many fine Australian artists. We would not have a modern company of such depth and significance without her example.”

The 75-minute broadcast will also screen live in Federation Square, Melbourne.
