The Dyson was a real surprise when it turned up to our offices for testing. Instantly we were concerned that compared to our old upright Dyson machine, the small size wouldn't be up to the task, but boy were we wrong - this little machine runs rings around the older machines.
The suction of this very maneuverable unit makes it a breeze to use. We did find that the suction was so strong it was initially a bit of a workout - but the amount of crud it pulled out of the carpets was well work the sweat.
It probably has something to do with the two tiers of cyclones its packed with. The upright also comes with the stick function - which for a while we didn't know how it worked until a: we read the manual and b: found out the stick had to be turned upside down for the attachments to work - different to our previous Dyson upright.
We love the size of this thing, for its storability. It would be great for any size dwelling, especially apartments with little or no storage options. The one downside to the size is that the waste canister needs a more frequent clean out than the older machines - but this might be good for health reasons so its not a real complaint, just different.
The power head on it moves seamlessly from carpet to tile and picks up a lot. The only niggly thing is that due to its strength of suction - its space to the floor means non dust items, like popcorn kernals etc can be pushed along instead of sucked up. Inconvenient for the lazy 'vacuumer', or those that don't want to consistently bend down to pick up small items.
All in all - its well worth the price and a pleasure to use. Dyson has done it again.
