Federal government to make a name change

Federal government to make a name change

The Australian Government’s digital ID app, myGovID, is changing its name to myID.

A digital ID is an online method of confirming your ID that does not require physical documents which is another move to digitise services affecting older Australians.

The app will have a new name and look, but it will still work in the same way, allowing you to use a range of government services online.

The name change is part of the Australian Government’s plan to expand the app’s use to more services and avoid confusion with the myGov website.

The Department of Aged Care said “You don’t need to do anything to prepare for this change. Your login information and access to services will remain the same. The app should update automatically, or you can update it manually in the App Store or Google Play once available.

This change makes your digital ID even more secure. It helps protect you from identity theft by keeping your information encrypted and verified.”

Remember, never share your digital ID with anyone. Do not ever click on links in SMS or emails, go directly to a website you know is authentic and double check URLs before proceeding to safeguard yourself.

If you think your digital ID has been compromised, call theĀ support line immediately to report it.
